This is a type of lighting that has been a favourite among photographers for decades now, since it’s so easy to work with. Classic Loop Lighting Example – Shadow Loops Around the Side and Bottom of the Nose It is flattering but not flat and adds some 3D depth to the face. It can be achieved with one light that is placed above and to one side of the subject’s head, between 30-45°. Loop lighting is a pattern that creates an asymmetric shadow that loops around the side and bottom of the nose.
SOFT EDGE TOUCH PHOTO GLAMOUR SHOTS HOW TO
How long do we set the exposure for? How to position your subject in relation to the light source, etc. There are numerous benefits to shooting in this way, but getting started appears to be difficult, especially when you are an amateur photographer, not used to the portrait lighting patterns! It takes time to get used to the different lighting patterns. Thanks to all those who commented on the subject at hand (and to the others I'll try and get a legal opinion from which we can base another thread). There is a lot of confusion about the portrait lighting setup known as “Loop Lighting” in studio photography.
SOFT EDGE TOUCH PHOTO GLAMOUR SHOTS SKIN
Additionally tried 81A filter for the skin tone + stopped down bracketing? I think my previous error was distance from the subject and not using the soft reflector (hope so anyway). mags and it consistently has the same outcome. I've seen the effect quite a lot in recent Aus. The model also had a light coat of oil (figured this might catch the highlights) towards the shoots end.

Film was Portra 400VC (tried to get some Fuji as suggested, but the weekend lab had none in stock). I shot a new model outdoors with the proposed setup today, and will (if the thread lives) post the results after processing.įor anyone interested, I used a Broncolor Mobil with the ring flash and a soft reflector (meant for the unit). Hope we can return to the true aspect of this thread - I've got some good information and leads from it (including legal aspects -)). I should have this matter solved as I will consult our companies US IP specialists in Chicago. Hi to all concerned about the legal aspects. Located in Australia - little high level resource available to date. I use Kodak Portra 400VC (which was suggested to me by a pro). Or possibly I need some clues on film types etc. I figure (as these are high quality magazine shots) that there might be more to it in terms of pre-processing the images. I've spent hours in the Library pouring through every title available and most don't seem to cover the more current 'lighting'. These efforts have proceeded over a month or two, and plenty of study during. I figure that it is the popular Ringflash (I can only afford to hire them at the moment) so I'm limited by experiments. Huge softbox with black reflectors on either side (did not have the skin highlights or edge)īroncolor Mobil with Ringflash (skin highlight was the problem).

Two 22" reflectors (beauty lights) from Profoto (could not remove all shadows) Many thanks for pointing this out - not sure how to proceed showing examples?

I've never posted before - but have seen a shot similar which had 'copyright to the original' - which I thought may suffice (don't know the photographers name).
